Cargo type

Configured rule: 1 day per 200 km or part thereof.

Visible formula

Validity days = ceil(distance km ÷ configured km per day). Expiry = the midnight boundary at the end of the configured validity period. Extension window = [expiry − 8 hours, expiry + 8 hours].

Regular cargo: ceil(distance ÷ 200). ODC: ceil(distance ÷ 20).

Configured extension rule: Rule 138(10): extension can be filed within 8 hours before or after expiry by the transporter/generator when goods are in transit.

Printable IF / THEN decision path

  1. IF the consignment value is below ₹50,000, THEN this central inter-state check returns “e-way bill not required”.
  2. IF the value is ₹50,000 or more, THEN continue with the e-way bill validity calculation.
  3. IF cargo is regular, THEN use 1 day per 200 km or part thereof; IF cargo is ODC, THEN use 1 day per 20 km or part thereof.
  4. IF Part B is first filled, THEN validity starts at that event and ends at the calculated midnight expiry boundary.
  5. IF goods are in transit near expiry, THEN review the configured ±8-hour extension window under Rule 138(10).

Frequently asked questions

What is the central e-way bill threshold?

1. The central inter-state rule checked here uses a consignment value threshold of ₹50,000 under Rule 138 of the CGST Rules. Intra-state thresholds can vary by State or Union Territory.

How many days is a regular e-way bill valid?

1. The configured rule gives one day per 200 km or part thereof for regular cargo. The tool calculates days with ceiling division, so 201 km requires two days.

How many days is ODC cargo valid?

1. The configured over-dimensional cargo rule gives one day per 20 km or part thereof. ODC therefore receives a longer validity period than regular cargo for the same distance.

When does e-way bill validity start?

1. Validity starts when Part B is first filled. Under the configured first-day rule, day 1 ends at midnight of the following day: Validity starts when Part B is first filled; day 1 ends at midnight of the following day (relevant date + 1).

When can an e-way bill be extended?

1. The configured Rule 138(10) note allows an extension within 8 hours before or after expiry when goods are in transit, by the transporter or generator as applicable.

Does every intra-state movement use ₹50,000?

1. No. This tool covers the central ₹50,000 inter-state rule. Intra-state thresholds vary by state (some states ₹1,00,000, some exempt specified goods). Tool covers the central ₹50,000 inter-state rule and links out for state variations — do not hardcode state lists.
