It's DIN KYC season — does every director need to file?
The short answer
Every person who holds a DIN as on 31 March must complete KYC by 30 September — even directors of dormant companies, even DIN holders with no current directorship. First-timers (and anyone whose mobile/email changed) file e-form DIR-3 KYC; everyone else confirms through the DIR-3 KYC web service. Miss it and the DIN is deactivated with a ₹5,000 reactivation fee.

Questions founders actually ask
I'm not a director anywhere right now — do I still file?
Yes. The obligation attaches to holding a DIN, not to holding a directorship. An unused DIN still gets deactivated for missed KYC.
What happens if the deadline is missed?
The DIN is marked 'Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC' and reactivation costs ₹5,000. A deactivated DIN also blocks every company filing that needs that director's signature.
Foreign directors keep failing OTP — what now?
MCA runs an IVR flow for foreign directors with OTP issues; unresolved cases go through an MCA helpdesk ticket, per MCA's own advisory.
